New Mexico IRP & IFTA (NM Trip & Fuel)
The New Mexico DMV offers 5 day trip permits authorizing travel in New Mexico for any vehicle that is subject to the International Registration Plan (IRP) and 5 day fuel permits for any vehicle that is subject to the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) but is not registered under these programs.
Do I Need a Trip and/or Fuel Permit?
Required for carriers based outside of New Mexico that do not have IRP plates or an IFTA sticker.
Must have prior to entry into New Mexico and is valid in New Mexico only.

New Mexico Trip Permit - $43.00
Expiration Time - 5 days, upon expiration of 5 days from the effective time shown, this permit is void.

When is an IRP and / or IFTA Permit Required?

Carrier operates in two or more jurisdictions.

The power unit licensing weight is 26,001 lbs., or higher.

The power unit has more than two axles regardless of licensed weight.

The power unit is used in combination and the said combination is 26,001 lbs. or higher.
Permits are vehicle specific.
Permits are valid for 120 hours [trip] and 120 hours [fuel] or 120 hour combo trip & fuel.
